I can love New York and Arizona at the same time

Matt

Favorite Sports Team: Arizona State Football – It’s the very first hometown team I can remember having an interest in.

Favorite Sports Team of All Time (one certain year): 1996 ASU football – Great season, Great Rose Bowl, Bad result. It changed the course of my rooting for and rooting against paths in college football.

Favorite Current Athlete: Brandon Webb.

Favorite Athlete of All Time: Orel Hershiser – He is the first athlete I can remember having an interest in. I think he is an all around solid person on and off the field. Good announcer as well.

Favorite Movie: Equilibrium – You gotta see this movie. Might be Christian Bale’s finest performance, in my humble opinion.

Favorite TV Show: The Simpsons. The Office (UK) would be second. The Simpsons is just a legendary show. As far as The Office (UK) goes, Ricky Gervais is a genius.

Favorite Musical Artist: Rage Against the Machine – My musical tastes have changed throughout the years, but RATM has always been on the top no matter what.

Favorite Quote: “They left too much time.” – Former ASU quarterback Sam Keller. Keller led the Sun Devils to a last minute victory (27-23) over Purdue in the 2004 Sun Bowl. I like this quote so much because this was basically the only thing he said to the reporter when approached. It made Sun Devil fans excited for Keller’s potential in 2005. Although in the next season he got hurt and was replaced by Rudy Carpenter, and I think we all know the story on that one.

Favorite ESPN Personality: Kenny Mayne makes me laugh all the time. Neil Everett also does the same, so he is second.

Least Favorite ESPN Personality: Maybe Scoop Jackson. He makes my head hurt.

Prediction time. Who is the next MJ?: Tyreke Evans.

Failed prediction time. What was your worst sports prediction ever: I do not really consider this a prediction, but it failed regardless. In 2003, ASU football traveled to Iowa. ASU was 2-0 at the time and Iowa was ranked 12th. I was watching the game with Aaron and our buddy Justin. Five minutes into the first quarter ASU’s defense forced Iowa into two straight fumbles (both of which Iowa recovered), and then the next play ASU got a safety. I jumped up (or maybe continued to sit) and proclaimed that ASU was headed for a victory and a top 15 ranking. Well, ASU went on to lose the game 21-2 and finished the year at 5-7. I was credited with ruining the season.

If you were a Major League Baseball player, what song would you play before your at-bats?: “I’m Yours” Jason Mraz – It is such a peaceful happy song that I figure it would calm me down enough to get a hit every single time.

Favorite Moment in Sports History:Luis Gonzalez’s hit. That is a classic. Another great moment though is when Jay Bell hit a grand slam to win a lady one million dollars. Back in the day, every Sunday home game the Diamondbacks would hold a contest. One fan would have a chance to win one million dollars. They would have to give the name of the player who they thought would hit a grand slam as well as the inning that player would do it. The lady picked Jay Bell in the 6th. Bell went up there with the bases loaded and hit it out. Amazing.
