Christmas Cardinals Time!
Aaron (aka the A-Zone)
Favorite Sports Team: The Phoenix Suns – My first sports memory is of me crying when the Suns lost to Portland in the 1992 NBA Playoffs (pre Barkley). I still cringe whenever I hear the words John Paxson. Kevin Johnson is my favorite player and now favorite mayor. I also think I’m the only man in the world that actually likes Stephon Marbury. Not a day goes by that I don’t think about David Stern’s suspensions in the 2007 playoffs, or the fact that in the past four years the Suns have basically given up Loul Deng, Rajon Rondo, Rudy Fernandez and Joe Johnson for nothing.
Favorite Sports Team of all time (one certain year): 1992-93 Phoenix Suns – Barkely, KJ, Thunder Dan, Long Range Ainge, Oliver Miller’s weight, Fourth Quarter Frank Johnson, Cedric ‘Nuff Said Ceballos, the coke head Richard Dumas, a past his prime Tom Chambers and lets not forget Mark “6 Fouls” West. Still the best team to never win a championship. Although the 2008 Arizona Cardinals came within two minutes of supplanting them.
Favorite Current Athlete: Larry Fitzgerald – Here is the deal, I’ve been on the Fitz badwagon since the day he was drafted. The dude is a freak, a complete freak and now the rest of the world knows what I and other Arizona Cardinal fans have known for five years. I didn’t expect Fitz to turn into Jerry Rice over the course of a few playoff weeks, but it was fantastic to watch. His go ahead TD catch in the Super Bowl might have been the most thrilling sports play I have ever witnessed.
Favorite Athlete of All Time: Kevin “KJ” Johnson – Quicker than quick, he could shoot the midrange shot as good as anyone, could penetrate like no other, was a great passer who looked for his shot first, which was okay because he was a great scorer too. He took a backseat to Sir Charles while in the prime of his career then the wave injuries hit and robbed him of a Hall of Fame career. What does the man do after retirement? Only become Mayor of his hometown of Sacremento.
Favorite Movie: Braveheart – It’s a brilliant movie. The acting is great, the directing is great, the story is great and even though it’s close to three hours long there is never a lull. They only make movies like this once a decade. Watch it again and try not to think about what Mel Gibson says when drunk.
Favorite TV Show: Friday Night Lights – This is literally the best show no one watches. This is, hands down, the best acted show on television. Every storyline is compelling and authentic. The show can make you laugh, can make you cry and make you feel for every character on it. The characters are classic and it is easy to get very invested in their story lines. As an added bonus, when it becomes too much like a soap opera, we get a football related storyline!
Favorite Musical Artist: Lupe Fiasco – Go listen to his latest album, The Cool, and tell me its not one of the finest pieces of hip hop you have ever heard.
Favorite Quote: “We talkin’ bout practice!” – Allen Iverson – I know its old, I know its overplayed, but I still remember exactly where I was when I first heard this rant. That has to count for something, right?
Favorite ESPN Personality: Erin Andrews – Yes, she is probably the hottest sideline reporter ever but forget that, she is also the most talented. I think that goes over looked because of her looks. I was also on the Erin Andrews bandwagon long before you were.
Least Favorite ESPN Personality: Skip Bayless – Let’s see, his lone journalistic talent is arguing against the common opinion. So if everyone likes Michael Jordan, Bayless will say he sucks just to get people talking. I don’t respect people who do this. Plus he looks sleazy and his voice is nauseating (but I don’t know him personally, so no offense Skip).
Prediction time. Who is the next MJ?: Ummm, I can tell you who it wasn’t: Harold Miner, Vince Carter, Tracy McGrady or Allen Heckard.
Failed prediction time. What was your worst sports prediction ever: In 2004 the Kansas City Royals were coming off of a 83-79 season and I predicted they would go to the World Series. What happened? They lost 104 games. I can’t believe I am admitting this right now.
If you were a Major League Baseball player, what song would you play before your at-bats: ‘Twist and Shout” by the Beatles. Not only would the song get the crowd pumped, but hopefully people would start twisting in the stands during every one of my at bats. Also, if I was a closer and had to choose a song that gets played during my warm up pitching I would choose “Closing Time” by Semisonic, for obvious reasons.
Favorite Moment in Sports History: Luis Gonzales’ game winning hit in game seven of the 2001 World Series. I can’t find the video for it so I will give you video of my second favorite moment:
